Welcome to the Contract Law Essentials Guide

Introduction to the Essentials of Contract Law

Contract law is based largely on the common law tradition, although there are some statutes that are also relevant. The Contract law course consists of an introduction to the law concerning binding obligations voluntarily entered into, commonly called contracts. The following concepts are covered: how contracts are created; the problems in the contractual relationship; and remedies for breach of contract. Included in this research guide are references to important resources to start your research such as Halsbury’s Laws of Canada and the Canadian Encyclopedic Digest; relevant online databases for caselaw and legislative research; journal indexes; and catalogue links to texts on different aspects of contract law held on Reserve in the John and Dotsa Bitove Family Law Library.
