This guide will focus on the visual resources within the Archives and Special Collections at Western Libraries. This is a select list of resources so is only a sampling of our holdings. Visual is being broadly defined as all types of images, mainly photographic but also includes other archival material such as maps, artwork, architectural drawings, and textual materials, plus our rare book holdings.
Items are located in many places within our holdings due to use of different systems and levels of processing of individual items. Photographs come in many different formats such as prints, slides, and negatives (glass or film). Some cataloguing is at the item level for photographs, but most fonds/collections may only have preliminary listings or brief descriptions of content so can be important to review fonds/collections in person. If digital content is available links directing to the images is provided.
If after reviewing this guide you still need to consult on your image(s) request please contact us. All inquiries are welcome from on campus and the wider community.
