ECE4415/4416: Project Research

Developing Keywords

Step 1: Define your topic.

E.g. “real-time signal processing in MRI imaging”

Step 2: Convert it into a research question. This will help focus your search.

E.g. "How can we improve real-time digital signal processing in MRI imaging?"

Step 3: Break your question down into concepts.

Hint: A concept map is a visual representation of concepts that will help answer your question. A concept map outlines concepts and their relationships to each other. Identify different facets of the concepts. This will help you when you start developing your search strategy.

"How can we improve real-time digital signal processing in MRI imaging?"

Concept map - see outline after image

Outline of Concept Map:

Real-time signal processing in MRI imaging

  1. MRI
    1. Magnetic resonance
    2. Diagnostic imaging
    3. Soft-tissue imaging - cardiac imaging
  2. Signal processing
    1. Image reconstruction
    2. Noise removal/signal-to-noise ratio
    3. Anti-alias
    4. Artifacts
  3. Real-time computing
    1. Reactive computing
    2. Speed
    3. Develop algorithm

Step 4: Think of synonyms and variations. Test out some keywords.

Take time to think of synonyms, alternate spellings, similar terms, or related terms that you can include in your search.
