American Census Information Sources

A census is conducted every ten years in the United States beginning with 1790. Much of this data is available online. If the information you require is not available in one of the following sources, please note that The D.B. Weldon has a vast collection of census data in both microform and print format. U.S. Census Bureau. Census of Population and Housing (Online) Features population and housing data from the U.S. Census 1790 - 2000. Also included are many special collections such as (Census of) Religious Bodies, 1916.

Historical Census Browser  Produced by the University of Virginia, Geospatial and Statistical Data Center, this site presents data and terminology drawn directly from historical volumes of the U.S. Census of Population and Housing. Included are the census years from 1790 to 1960.
