ArcGIS is a common GIS software program with a global reach. As a graduate student, staff member, or faculty at Western or the affiliates, you have access to the software through the University's Educational Site License.
ArcGIS Pro is the latest professional desktop GIS application from Esri. With ArcGIS Pro, you can explore, visualize, and analyze data; create 2D maps and 3D scenes; and share your work to your ArcGIS Online or ArcGIS Enterprise portal. This software is also available for download through the University's Educational Site License.

This account will be linked to Western’s ArcGIS Online organization and grant you access to web-GIS software such as: Survey123, Collector for ArcGIS, Story Maps, Experience Builder, Dashboards, App Studio, Business Analyst, Community Analyst and more.
QGIS is a free and open source GIS software program that allows you to "create, edit, visualise, analyse, or publish geospatial information" (qgis.org). This program can run on a variety of operating systems - Windows, Linux, Mac, and in the future, Android.
