Listed below are a few examples of the types of useful professional resources that LIS associations publish. These resources will help students with understanding specific topics within LIS.

Professional Ethics Guidelines (SLA Professionals)
Special Libraries Association (SLA):
"SLA’s guidelines for professional conduct are positioned within various interacting value systems: basic human rights; organizational missions, goals, objectives and ethical codes; legal, cultural, societal and governmental norms; and personal ethical beliefs. The guidelines are intended to help SLA members frame ethical deliberation whenever professionally-related ethical problems arise." (SLA, 2010)
Competencies for Librarians Serving Children in Libraries
Association for Librarians Serving Children (ALSC), A division of the American Library Association (ALA):
"ALSC recommends the following competencies to all children’s librarians and other library staff whose primary duties include delivering library service to and advocating library service for children ages 0 to 14 and their caregivers." (ALSC, 2020)
Competencies for Librarians in Canadian Research Libraries
Canadian Association of Research Librarians (CARL):
"The Competencies represent a range of knowledge, skills, and mindsets for librarians in research environments. The aim is to match a set of aspirational values to the knowledge, skills and mindsets that are required for success in academic librarianship in Canada." (Adapted from CARL, 2020).
