Comics Journals

European Comic Art - Devoted to articles pertaining to European comics, graphic novels, comic strips, and caricatures, European Comic Art is published biannually in association with the International Bande Dessinée Society.

ImageTexT - ImageTexT is an open access, peer-reviewed journal published by the University of Florida's Department of English dedicated to the study of comics, comic strips, animation, illustrated fiction, and children's picture books. It features articles from scholars working in a range of scholarly disciplines about texts from around the world.

Inks: The Journal of the Comics Studies Society - Published triannually by the Comics Studies Society, Inks features articles on graphic novels, comic books, comic strips, editorial cartoons, and webcomics among other forms of graphic narrative and sequential art. The CSS also hosts a yearly conference for members to present their comics-related research.

Journal of Graphic Novels and Comics - This journal publishes peer-reviewed comics-related scholarship on works from around the world with an emphasis on "the production and consumption of comics in their cultural, institutional, and creative contexts."

Journal of Popular Culture - Intended to remove the barriers between the study of "high" and "low" art, the Journal of Popular Culture is devoted to publishing research on a wide variety of popular media, including television shows, comic books, and genre fiction.

JSTOR - One of the largest and most popular sources for digital copies of academic journals, JSTOR contains articles from over seventy-five academic disciplines.

MLA International Bibliography - Contains citations for journal articles in the fields of modern languages and literature, including literary criticism and the history of printing and publishing.

Project MUSE - Provides access to millions of academic journal articles in the fields of the humanities and social sciences. It also hosts a growing collection of over 5,000 scholarly monographs.

ProQuest Arts and Humanities - Includes journal articles from the fields of art, history, literature, and cultural studies.

Underground and Independent Comics, Comix, and Graphic Novels - This database hosts digitized comics ranging from the Hernandez brothers' Love and Rockets, to the groundbreaking feminist anthology Wimmen's Comics, to the pre-Comics Code Shock SuspenStories published by EC Comics.
